Scott Dickinson - Big Red Monstrosity

I’m originally from Nottingham, currently living in Edinburgh. Before giving up work for health reasons, I was an offshore engineer and loved it. I now spend my time volunteering for a couple of organisations, one of them being Lothian 4x4 Response.

I bought my Ranger in April 2018, I needed a car and had about 24 hours to find one. I rang up a friend who said he had it sitting in his yard doing nothing. It just happened to be a Ranger, I would have bought it if it was a punto, luckily it wasn't. Bought on 150k miles, now on 206k, it's been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

I got into off roading through a Facebook group, and over time, worked out what mods I needed.
The first mod was a snorkel, after a water crossing saw water over the bonnet and into the airbox. A Lucky escape! The suspension lift and bigger tyres got added next; as the breakover angle wasn't the best, and saw me stuck more than once, with standard suspension and standard size road tyres. I went from road tyres, to ATs and eventually bigger MTs as I got more adventurous.
The light bar got added as I spent a lot of time on unlit roads in the middle of the night for work, driving to one harbour or another. Wired into the high beam lights via an aftermarket fuse and relay board, its such a handy thing to have. The reverse spotlights got fitted for similar reasons, on a dark, wet night, it's impossible to see behind you while reversing. The reverse cam and android head unit came later.
Everything else has been added for use with the response group the beacons, roof rack, VHF radio, as and when I needed them. I've put this truck through its paces, including getting it stuck in very deep water, more than happy to show photographic evidence to anyone that stands still for too long. Completely disassembling and drying the interior and changing all the oils was luckily all it needed. I've covered 35k miles since.
It's been great, especially for a battered old truck.
