Hands-on with the Ford Ranger Raptor Special Edition

The Raptor SE is a limited run of Ford’s Ranger pickup truck. Only 50 special edition vehicles are estimated to make their way over to the United Kingdom, with around 700 in the whole of Europe. If you were lucky enough part with £53,000 and place an order shortly after it’s announcement, you should have received your shiny new truck or it’ll be turning up very soon.

The Ford Ranger Raptor SE is mechanically identical to the standard Ranger Raptor. Same Fox shocks, same rugged wheel setup, same 213 PS 2.0-litre EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel engine and still only available in 10-speed auto, so what makes the SE ‘special’?

The SE gets bright red front recovery points poking through contrasting white underbody protection, red and matt black bodywork art, matt black exterior accents such as the wheel arches; grille and parts of the bumpers, red interior detailing and a distinctive Raceway Grey instrument panel finish. You also get General Grabber AT3 all terrain tyres rather than BF Goodrich KO2s, which was standard on the normal Ranger Raptor.

The pick-up truck is available in Performance Blue, Conquer Grey, or Frozen White. Ford customers in other markets such as Australia get a slightly revised version named the Raptor X that has 33” BF Goodrich, extended leg sports bar and comes in an extra colour; Shadow Black.
